The shipment, which included anti-aircraft guns and artillery, arrived via a warship on Sunday and was promptly distributed throughout the Somali capital.
This is the second such delivery in the past month, signaling a growing partnership between Egypt and Somalia. The move comes amidst strained relations between Somalia and its neighbor Ethiopia, once a close ally. However, Somali Defense Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur has defended the move, stating that Somalia is now free to choose its own allies and partners.
In a social media post, Minister Nur expressed gratitude to Egypt for the military assistance. He wrote, "Somalia has moved beyond being dictated to and no longer waits for approval from others regarding its alliances. We understand our interests and will decide who our friends and foes are. Thank you, Egypt."
